What? WHAT?

What are you supposed to do, bring your blood soaked pads to the police station?!

Ok so I don't like abortion (but I support every woman's option to choose for herself). And I really don't like the idea of partial birth abortion. But what the F is that bill trying to accomplish, exactly? Seems stupid to me.

If I understand that correctly, it's to apply to any kind of termination of pregnancy, spontaneous or induced, that is not attended by a medical professional. So if you're pregnant and have a miscarriage and were 1) planning an unassisted pregnancy or 2) are seeing a midwife and they are not legal in your state, you either HAVE to see a medpro, or you have to report yourself to the cops and show them the remains.

I have no idea why someone thinks this is useful. I am RELATIVELY certain it is supposed to mean stillbirth, in states where third-trimester abortions are illegal, so that they can ascertain you didn't cause one yourself.

I was thinking it's supposed to refer to late second or third trimester births becuase that's what makes sense, but when I went to reread it it only says 'fetus'

so...wow. wtf.

These bills, as written for other states, are purposely worded so that early term abortions and miscarriages are included. Some even have specific wording to provider for investigations into miscarriages to determine if they were caused by the mother in some way (lifestyle, herbal abortions, etc.)

That is really, really scary.

What's even scarier is that the wording of these bills has been developed by an exceptionally fringe, right wing religious group whose goals include criminalizing abortion and outlawing non-barrier birth control methods.

I've never understood the mentality of those people. It's really mind boggling.

Well, I seriously doubt that bill will pass. Here's hoping, anyway.

They tried to pass a similar law a few years ago when I still lived there and it failed. I'm not surprised it failed because it's ridiculous, but I'm equally unsurprised that the legislature is trying to pass it again.

So basically if you have a miscarriage, you're supposed to report it and bring... the clots in the toilet... ?? Because that's not going to be traumatic at all.

And if you induce a miscarriage, you're supposed to do the same thing?

Sounds pretty logicallllllllllll.

Calling the police was the last thing I wanted to do when grieving a miscarriage. W.T.F.

We had a similar bill on the table in GA a few legislative sessions ago. Thank goodness it didn't pass!

I have buried a fetus after a second trimester miscarriage that I had unassisted at home after three days of miserable pain and bleeding. After leaving the hospital because they were treating me like shit even though I had a DEAD BABY INSIDE OF ME, and I did not want a D&C.

Anyway yeah, THAT BILL IS NOT OK.
