Day one of temporary single parenting

David left on his business trip early Thursday morning. Elliot and I slept late, then got up, got dressed, and played while mommy checked email. Then we went for a walk around the neighborhood and played outside until it started to rain. Then we had lunch and watched Seseme Street (bad mommy, using TV to get a break!). Then we played some more, and then he went down for a nap. When he woke up,
shirleym came over and brought us dinner. We ate, and played downstairs for awhile. Elliot got crabby, and Shirley had to leave, so Elliot had a bath while mommy sat in the bathroom and tried to read a bit and not get too wet. After the bath, we ate some more, played some more, and then the fun began.
I started trying to put him to bed at 12:45. He wasn't having it, was bouncing around the bed. So we got up to play a bit more, and he kept hitting the dog, which he does when he's overtired. He then bopped himself on the head with a toy, and started crying. I picked him up to comfort him, and brought him back to bed, hoping that the crying would turn into nursing, which would turn into sleeping. Well, quite the opposite happened. He threw a fit. A full-blown, three year old fit, complete with flailing arms and kicking legs. Oh, and the screaming, let's not forget the screaming. For 30 minutes he did this. I couldn't touch him, if I tried I got hit or, in one instance, bit. (note to self: never offer boob to pissed off, tantruming child) After the half hour or so, he wound down, but started calling for "daddy", which was very sad. We came back out, mommy put him in his highchair with grapes and turned on the TV and I called my sister, who was the only person I knew would be awake at 2 am. I calmed down, and took him back to bed. Finally, at 2:45, he fell asleep. Two hours to get a 15 month old down. I don't know what I will do when I have another one.
Anyway, thanks for listening, and here's to hoping that day 2 of the temporary single parenting will go better. Now, off to find my lanolin for the injured boob and some reading to relax before I go to bed.
