The Help

Run, do not walk, to see this movie. Not only will it make you cry, laugh, and be furious all at once, it will remind you of where we come from as a nation. It passes the Bechdel test with flying colors, and I don't think I've seen something since Whip It that did that. Awesome movie.

How does it compare to the book?

I am a person who always prefers the book, and I honestly think I liked this movie better. The casting was perfect.

I liked the book better BUT the movie was excellent and did an excellent job as far as casting and storyline were concerned.

They left some things out and changed a few things up out of necessity/length, but the whole thing was incredibly well done. The only reason I'd say I preferred the book is because of a few things they left out that I really liked in the book.

I recently read and liked this book and was wondering how the movie would be - I didn't really enjoy the trailer, so I'm glad to see your review :) Also, I made a whole ranty entry on lj and a separate one on tumblr awhile back about the bechdel test and how I loathe that movies are all and only about men, so yay.
